Pause Bakery & Co was born from a desire to create something more than just baked goods - it was created to hold space. Space for connection, for comfort, for inclusivity, and for those quiet moments we so often forget to give ourselves.

Founded by Kaila and Emma, Pause is a queer-owned bakery rooted deeply in lived experience, passion, and intention. Emma is a pastry school graduate who has been dreaming of opening her own bakery since she received her very first Easy-Bake Oven at just four years old. For Kaila, baking has always been a part of who she is - growing up in the kitchen alongside her mom and nana from the moment she could hold a whisk.

As someone who is both vegan and gluten-free, Kaila understands firsthand how isolating food can feel when options are limited or lacking. What began as a personal need grew into a shared mission: to create baked goods that are not only inclusive, but genuinely delicious - treats that everyone can reach for without hesitation.

At Pause, we believe food should bring people together, not set them apart. Every cookie, cake and creation is made with care, ensuring that dietary needs never mean sacrificing flavour, texture or joy.

The name “Pause” reflects something we value deeply - the importance of slowing down. Of taking a breath, grounding yourself and allowing space in your day to simply be - and “Co”? that part is intentionally open. It might mean company, coffee, connection, community. To us, it’s all of it - and to you, it can be whatever you need.

When we’re not baking, you’ll likely find us creating, exploring nature or spending time with our dog Lucy, who keeps things light and reminds us to stay present.
